Forward
Here is a quick post to just talk about what I want to get out of this. My goal is to document my learning outcomes from doing personal projects that I have put on the backburner. I have been feeling a bit stagnated lately with my growth professionally and wanted to change that in order to feel more fulfilled in my career progression.
While working in the industry, the games have had specific needs that I needed to meet within a time frame. That did not provide the space to explore different techniques and approaches for things that I found interesting. I want to use my personal game engine to explore these things to a level that I will feel satisfied with.
My first long term goal will be to implement a performant and real time world simulation. I am looking to explore compute shaders, procedural landscape generation, volumetric clouds and lighting, and dig deeper into the rendering pipeline. I am going to start by revisiting my thesis project, Large Scale Ocean Rendering and Simulation, to address issues with performance. I will follow that up with implementation of DirectX 12 to become fully comfortable interacting at a low level with the GPU.
I hope to use these dev-logs to document my progression and to talk about insights I gain from exploring my game development journey!
